The shooting took place around 3.30 pm on Saturday when the exterior of the mall was crowded with shoppers. At least eight people were killed in the shootout and the attacker, Mauricio Garcia, 33, was also killed by police. Aishwarya, the daughter of a district judge at the Ranga Reddy district court in the Indian state of Telangana, was a project manager at Perfect General Contractors LLC. The Indian Consulate in Houston is in touch with the families of Aishwarya and the two other Indians injured in the firing.
Consul General of India in Houston Aseem Mahajan told PTI that they are helping the family in completing the formalities to send Aishwarya’s body to her family. Mahajan said, “Two other Indian citizens have also been injured in this tragic incident of firing. We are in constant touch with the local and hospital administration, relatives of the injured and community leaders. According to sources, the condition of one of the injured is critical. Consular officials are present in Dallas to provide all possible assistance.
According to Aishwarya’s supervisor Srinivas Chaluvadi, everyone remembers her, not because she died under tragic circumstances, but because she was a very good person. He said that she would have turned 27 on May 18 and her family was planning a birthday party for her. Ashok Kolla, leader of the Telugu Association of North America, is making arrangements to send Thathikonda’s body to India. Others killed included a three-year-old boy, his parents, a security guard and two primary school-going sisters.
Seven others were also injured in the incident and are undergoing treatment at the hospital. The investigation of the crime is ongoing and more information is being gathered about the people killed in the incident. Thatikonda had moved to the US about five years ago to pursue her master’s degree. He graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 2020. “We are deeply saddened to learn this morning that Eastern Michigan University graduate Aishwarya Thatikonda was among those killed in Saturday’s shooting at a mall outside Dallas, Texas,” the university said in a statement. He will always be remembered as the stalwart of the university.
