Islamabad. Former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Pervez Elahi was arrested again on Tuesday, soon after the Islamabad High Court suspended his detention and ordered his release. Islamabad Police said on the social media platform ‘X’ that Elahi, former chief minister of Punjab province, was arrested in a terrorism case. Earlier it had said that the PTI leader has been released following the order of the High Court.
Elahi is among the PTI leaders and workers who were arrested after the May 9 riots protesting Khan’s arrest. Earlier in the day, the High Court suspended Elahi’s custody under Section 3 of the Restoration of Public Order (MPO) and ordered his release.
Elahi was first arrested on June 1 and charged with several corruption cases. Elahi’s most recent arrest was made by the Islamabad police on Friday last week, hours before the Lahore High Court ordered Elahi’s release in a corruption case and clearly instructed authorities not to arrest him in any other case. Do not be detained in the matter.
