This year, April 2 is the seventeenth “World Autism Awareness Day”. On this occasion, a public welfare training project aimed at improving the health management abilities of children suffering from autism was launched in Beijing. This project will help relevant physicians and parents jointly improve their health management abilities for children with autism, and promote the normalization of public welfare treatment and systematization of public welfare training for children with autism .
Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder occurring in children. According to statistics, about 67 million people in the world and about 10 million in China suffer from autism, of which about 3 million are children. To this end, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution in 2007 to designate April 2 of each year as “World Autism Awareness Day.”
Yu Xiaothong, a member of the first autism prevention and treatment research committee of the Chinese Maternal and Child Health Research Association, introduced that so far 140 autistic children have received public welfare treatment through comprehensive integrated medical methods. 80 percent of those patients experienced significant improvement in their main symptoms and were able to integrate into society.
