The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday suspended PTI chairman Imran Khan’s three-year sentence in the Toshakhana case. However, a recently set up special court to hear cases under the Official Secrets Act has directed the Attock jail authorities to keep Imran in judicial lockup in the Cipher case and produce him in this regard on August 30 (tomorrow). In a letter addressed to the Attock Jail Superintendent, Special Court Judge Abul Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain said the accused is Imran Khan Niazi s/o Ikramullah Khan Niazi, resident of Zaman Park, Lahore. Judicial remand has been ordered in the matter of FIR mentioned above, which is already lodged in District Jail, Attock.
The cipher case pertains to a diplomatic document that allegedly went missing from Imran’s possession. PTI alleges that in this there was a threat from America to oust Imran from power. In the same case, proceedings are also going on against PTI Vice President and former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi. The much-awaited order in the Toshakhana case was announced by a division bench of the IHC comprising Chief Justice Amir Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri on the former prime minister’s appeal against his jail term.
Justice Farooq said that the copy of the judgment would be available soon… All we are saying now is that the request (of Imran) has been accepted. PTI Chairman’s aide on legal matters Naeem Haider Panjotha also confirmed in a post on X that the CJ has accepted our request, suspended the sentence and said that the detailed judgment will be provided later .
