Dhaka, 29 January (HS). A rape victim was kidnapped from the One-Stop Crisis Center (OCC) of Khulna Medical College Hospital in Bangladesh. The kidnappers forced him and his mother into a small car and took them away. This incident has been reported to have happened on Sunday afternoon.

Dhaka Tribune newspaper has revealed in its report that relatives of the victim girl, journalists and human rights activists were also present at the time of the incident. The miscreants who had come to kidnap the girl also tried to snatch the cameras of the journalists. Relatives, journalists and human rights activists were attacked when they protested.

According to the report, the 28-year-old victim had told an OCC doctor that she had a physical relationship with Dumuria Deputy District President Ghazi Ijaz Ahmed for four-five years. He wanted to forcefully marry her. She was continuously refusing for this. On Saturday night he took her to his office and physically assaulted her when she refused to marry him.

Khulna divisional coordinator of Bangladesh Human Rights Implementation Organisation, lawyer Mominul Islam, said a seven-member delegation reached the hospital on Sunday afternoon to provide legal assistance to the girl. At around 5.30 pm, an unknown person was seen taking the girl’s clearance paper from the OCC. When asked about their identification, the OCC in-charge threw everyone out, he said. After this, 15-20 people forcibly took away the girl and her mother.

In this regard, Khulna Metropolitan Police’s Assistant Commissioner (Sonadanga) Abu Naser Al Amin said that we have information that the girl has gone with her mother. The incident is being investigated. Ghazi Tauhiduzzaman, cousin of the accused Ghazi and president of Rudaghara Union Parishad of Dumuria Upazila, was caught by the local people and handed over to the police. Ghazi Ijaz Ahmed said that he did not know anything about this matter. Sonadanga police station in-charge Amirul Islam has said that it has been learned that the girl had voluntarily gone from the hospital to her mother’s house. Ghazi Tauhiduzzaman is a public representative. The mob has handed him over to the police. He is currently in custody.
