Record increase in the number of people investing in mutual funds through SIP

SIP investment at record level
The number of people investing through Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) increased by 7.44 per cent in May. The amount coming through this has increased to a record level of Rs 14,749 crore. While Rs 13,728 crore came through it in April. Debt funds saw an inflow of ₹45,959 crore, which is much lower than ₹1.06 lakh crore in April. In the Debt segment, short-term liquid funds saw a net inflow of ₹45,234 crore, while overnight funds saw an outflow of ₹18,910 crore.
Flow increased in small cap funds
Investment in these increased from Rs 2,182 crore in April to Rs 3,283 crore in May. Investment in Mid Cap Funds increased from ₹1,791 crore to ₹1,196 crore. As per the data, Dividend Yield Fund has seen an inflow of ₹289 crore.
Highest withdrawal from Large Cap Funds
Large cap funds saw the maximum withdrawal of Rs 1,362 crore. Rs 368 crore was withdrawn from flexi cap funds, Rs 504 crore from ELSS funds, Rs 169 crore from sectoral and thematic funds, Rs 943 crore from focused funds.
Manish Mehta, head of sales and marketing at Kotak Mahindra Asset Management Company, said, “Inflows into mutual funds declined in May, possibly due to increased spending on vacations and education, apart from booking profits amid the ongoing rally in the market.” Apart from this, investment in mutual funds through monthly installments increased to Rs 14,000 crore during May 2023. It was Rs 13,728 crore in April.
