Restoration of more than 8 lakh hectares of wetlands in China in the last decade – Dainik Savera Times

2 February is World Wetlands Day. Yuan Chiming, director of the Wetland Management Department of the Chinese National Forestry and Grassland Administration, said on February 2 that since the 18th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party (November 2012), China has implemented more than 3,400 wetland conservation projects and conserved 8 million hectares. More than 100,000 wetlands have been connected and restored.

According to Yuan Chiming, in recent years, China has continuously strengthened wetland protection and established more than 2,200 wetland-type natural conservation centers, bringing the national wetland area to 563.5 million hectares. These include 82 internationally important wetlands, 58 nationally important wetlands, 903 national wetland parks and 13 international wetland cities. Additionally, China plans to incorporate 11 million hectares of wetlands into the national park system and implement strict protection and management. Wetland ecological tourism and wetland nature education are growing rapidly in the country, and a good wetland ecological environment has become the growth point of people’s quality of life day by day.

Yuan also said that in the future, China will apply a group of internationally important wetlands and international wetland cities, promote the construction of the national wetland park monitoring and supervision system, implement wetland protection and restoration projects, and wetland Will continue to comprehensively strengthen conservation and restoration.
