Anwar Haq Kakar, Prime Minister of Pakistan’s caretaker government, said on January 19 that it was in the interest of both countries to take measures to restore relations between Pakistan and Iran.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s Office issued a statement that night saying that Kakar made the above statement while chairing a cabinet meeting that day. Kakar said Pakistan prefers peace, respects the rule of law and is keen to establish friendly and cooperative relations with all countries, especially neighboring countries. Pakistan and Iran have a long history of relations and they are brotherly countries with friendly and cooperative relations. It is in the interest of both the countries to take steps to restore relations between the two countries to the pre-January 16 situation. Pakistan welcomes and will respond to all positive steps taken by Iran in this regard.

It is noteworthy that Iran’s Tasnim news agency reported on the evening of January 16 that on that day, two important strongholds of the terrorist organization “Justice Army” in Pakistan were destroyed by missiles and drones. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement on the morning of the 17th, saying that two children were killed and three girls were injured as a result of Iran’s unprovoked violation of Pakistan’s airspace. Pakistan strongly opposed and condemned it. On the same day, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry announced the recall of its ambassador from Iran.

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement on the 18th, saying that Pakistan attacked a “terrorist” hideout in Iran’s Sistan-Baluchistan province that morning and killed several “terrorists.” The Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned Pakistan’s charge d’affaires in Iran on the same day. Also, Iran protested against the Pakistani attack and demanded an explanation from Pakistan.
