Retaliatory strike not aimed at Russian territory: Ukrainian President Zelensky

Berlin. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday that his country is preparing a retaliatory offensive to liberate Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia, but it is not aimed at Russian territories. Addressing a news conference in Berlin with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Zelensky said Ukraine’s goal was to liberate territories within its internationally recognized borders. Meanwhile, Scholz told Zelensky that Germany would support Ukraine “as long as necessary”.

Earlier in the day, Zelensky was received by the German Chancellor on his arrival in Berlin. Zelensky is on his first visit to Germany since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. During the visit, Zelensky will hold talks with German leaders about sending weapons and arms to help defend his country against Russian aggression and rebuilding infrastructure devastated by more than a year of devastating war. Zelensky reached Germany’s capital Berlin from Italy’s capital Rome by Luftwaffe plane.

In Rome, Zelensky met with Pope Francis and Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni.
