Rishi Sunak’s big statement before G20, As a proud Hindu, I will always have a strong connection with India

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Wednesday (September 6) in an exclusive interview with news agency PTI stressed on his deep connection with India and his “proud Hindu” heritage. Britain’s first Indian-born and Hindu Prime Minister, Sunak spoke of his strong ties to India, citing his Indian wife and deep pride in his Indian roots. In the interview, Sunak discusses his ties with India, government relations, the G20 summit and the global influence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing his Hindu faith and Indian heritage, Sunak said, “My wife is Indian, and being a proud Hindu means I will always have a connection to India and the people of India. I feel connected to my Indian roots and to India. Very proud of our relationship.” The remarks follow his first public displays of Hindu values, including wearing the sacred red Hindu ‘kalawa’ thread and performing gau puja (cow worship) in London. Sunak, Britain’s first Indian-origin and Hindu prime minister, has consistently embraced his heritage. He took oath as the Finance Minister of Britain by placing his hand on the Bhagavad Gita.

Along with this, Sunak praised the leadership of Narendra Modi last year and said that India got the chairmanship of G20 at a time when the world is facing many serious challenges.
