Tokyo, December 25 (Hindustan Reporter) The heat of political donation scam in Japan has reached the largest faction of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party. Japanese prosecutors have interrogated leaders close to former Prime Minister late Shinzo Abe.
According to Japan’s leading newspaper Japan Today, on Monday, Japanese prosecutors have questioned former top government spokesman Hirokazu Matsuno and other leaders close to the late former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in connection with the scandal. All of them are accused of embezzling crores of yen in the money collected as donations.
Prosecutors also questioned faction chairman Ryu Shionoya, former general secretary Tsuyoshi Takagi and former party general secretary in the House of Councilors, Hiroshige Seko, according to the newspaper. After this the ruling party has come under attack from the opposition. Opposition leader Akira Nagatsuma has described the questioning of major ruling party leaders as unprecedented.
The newspaper cited sources as saying that the ruling party’s ruling party’s Matsuno, Takagi and Seko have been accused of embezzling more than 10 million yen over five years to 2022. About 500 million yen were raised during this period. Prosecutors are also investigating the bank transactions of these leaders. If the charges are proved, these leaders could face imprisonment of up to five years or a fine of up to one million yen.
Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has commented on this entire incident – ‘Creating public distrust is extremely regrettable. I apologize for this. He has said that the government will take specific steps for political stability.
