Globally, the rupee fell four paise to 83.26 against the US dollar in early trade on Friday due to the strong trend of the American currency and continuous withdrawal of foreign funds.
Forex traders said that the positive trend in the domestic market supported the Indian currency and the fall was limited. In the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 83.22 per dollar and later reached 83.26. This is a fall of four paise compared to the previous closing price.
The rupee had closed at 83.22 per dollar on Thursday. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the US dollar’s position against six major currencies, was down 0.01 per cent at 106.11.
Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures were trading 0.15 per cent higher at $86.98 per barrel. According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital market and sold shares worth Rs 1,261.19 crore on Thursday.
