Rupee gains three paise at 83.37 per dollar

New Delhi. The rupee gained three paise to 83.37 against the US dollar in early trade on Monday amid continued inflow of foreign funds and a rise in the domestic stock market. However, the rise in crude oil prices had an impact on the Indian currency, foreign exchange traders said.
The rupee opened at 83.39 against the US dollar in the interbank foreign exchange market. Later it reached 83.37, which is an increase of three paise from the previous closing price. The rupee had closed at 83.40 against the US dollar on Friday. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the US dollar’s position against six major currencies, was trading 0.03 per cent higher at 103.66.
Global oil standard Brent crude futures were up 0.59 percent at $ 76.29 per barrel. According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth Rs 3,632.30 crore on Friday.
