Moscow (Uttam Hindu News): Russia’s Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Service (Rosselkhoznadzor) on Monday imposed an import ban on fruits and vegetables from Moldova.
“Rosselkhoznadzor is forced to restore from December 4, 2023, restrictions imposed in 2022 on the import of regulated products from the Republic of Moldova into Russia,” the agricultural watchdog said in a statement on Thursday.
The statement said the ongoing detection of trace elements in vegetables and fruits subject to quarantine could cause billions of dollars in losses to agricultural production in Russia and Moldova will take effective measures to stop the supply of these products, Xinhua news agency reported. Failed to take measures. However, the Moldovan National Agency for Food Safety described the decision as baseless.
The Russian agency temporarily restricted the import of plant products into Russia from Moldova’s territories on 15 August 2022, saying the decision was made due to the adverse phytosanitary situation in the country. Russia gradually lifted the sanctions in December 2022.
