The General Prosecutor’s Office said four other people were wounded during the first round of shelling that also targeted a trolleybus. The shelling comes after a popular Orthodox cathedral in Odessa was severely damaged in a missile attack last week. The shelling underscored the danger of war on the country’s cultural monuments. The Kherson Church, built in the year 1781, is one of the most notable buildings in the city. It was once the burial place of Prince Grigory Potemkin, a favorite of Russian Empress Catherine the Great.
drone attack from russia
In another development, Kiev region governor Ruslan Kravchenko said Russia had carried out several drone attacks on the capital region, but all were shot down and there was no loss of life or property. The Russian Defense Ministry said six Ukrainian drones were shot down in the Kaluga region, 150 km south of Moscow.
Russian occupation for nine months
Kherson, which had been under Russian occupation for nearly nine months, was recaptured by the Ukrainian army in November last year in a humiliating defeat for the Kremlin. With the annexation of Ukraine, Kherson immediately became the frontline of the war in the south and is facing deadly artillery and drone attacks from the Russian side.
