More than a year has passed since the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Now news has come that Ukraine is working with FBI, US companies to collect evidence of Russian war crimes. Senior officials said Ukraine is working with the US Federal Bureau of Investigation and US companies to gather evidence of war crimes by Russians. FBI Special Agent Alex Kobznets said Ukrainian officials have been collecting digital information from battlefields and war-torn Ukrainian cities since Russia invaded the country last February. Previously worked as legal attaché for the agency in Ukraine.
That data collection, analysis and then working through the data has been the FBI’s past experience, Kobznets said at the RSA Cyber Security Conference in San Francisco. That work includes analyzing cellphone information, forensic analysis of DNA samples as well as body parts collected from battlefields. Kobznets said the next step is to work with national US service providers, and move that information … getting customer information, getting geographic location information, where possible.
The agent said the FBI had been working for the past year and a half on helping Ukraine identify Russian collaborators and spies operating in Ukraine and Russian forces operating out of Kiev at the time of the invasion. US security companies and officials have been a key partner of Ukraine in its efforts to fend off Russian cyberattacks, which it has been battling since at least 2015.
