Kiev. Russia fired 30 cruise missiles at the Ukrainian capital Kiev and the Odessa region in the early hours of Thursday, 29 of which Ukraine’s air defense forces claimed to have shot down. Sergei Bratchak, spokesman for the Odessa military administration, said in a Telegram post. A Russian missile hit an industrial facility in the southern part of the region, killing one person and injuring two others.
Bratchak said, “The air defense forces shot down most of the enemy missiles over the sea. Unfortunately, an industrial facility was hit by the missile, killing one person and injuring two others.” Officials in Kiev said Russia targeted the Ukrainian capital for the ninth time this month. Strategic bombers in the Caspian region probably carried out these attacks with cruise missiles. Russian reconnaissance planes also flew over the Ukrainian capital after the attacks.
Kiev’s military authority spokesman Sergei Popko said in a telegram post that loud explosions were heard in Kiev and a garage complex caught fire from debris from the blast. However, there is no information about the number of casualties in the attack. According to officials, Ukraine’s air defense forces shot down two Russian bomber drones and two reconnaissance drones in addition to cruise missiles.
Ukraine’s air defense system, bolstered by state-of-the-art weaponry provided by Western countries, repelled a massive Russian air raid on Kiev earlier this week, shooting down most of its missiles, officials said. Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuriy Inhat said Russia had used six Kinzhal aero-ballistic hypersonic missiles for the attacks earlier this week.
He said Moscow probably used Soviet-era X-101 and X-55 cruise missiles for Thursday’s attacks.
Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief Gen. Valery Zaluzhyny said in a Telegram post that Russia fired several missiles from the sea, air and land into Ukraine between 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and 5:30 a.m. Thursday.
