Prigozhin was appealing to stop
Some documents of the Russian Investigation Dossier Center are in the hands of CNN. It turns out that Surovikin also had a personal registration number with Wagner. Surovikin is placed on the list along with at least 30 more senior Russian military and intelligence officers. About all of them the dossier center said that they are also members of VIP Wagner. Surovikin has not been seen anywhere since last Saturday. At the time he appealed to Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin to end his rebellion. A video of this was also released. His whereabouts since then have remained unknown. He has not even contacted his family.
Kremlin kept silent
The Kremlin has refused to answer about Surovikin’s whereabouts amid these ‘unconfirmed’ reports. It is not known whether the security agencies are questioning Surovikin or not. US intelligence claimed on Wednesday that Surovikin had prior knowledge of Yevgeny Prigozhin’s rebellion. He knew that Wagner’s troops had captured the city of Rostov and had moved on to Moscow. On behalf of the journalists, it was asked whether the Kremlin could clarify the situation with Surovikin? Peskov said, ‘No. I suggest you contact the Ministry of Defence. It is their prerogative. Peskov also declined to answer a question about whether Surovikin retained Putin’s confidence.
Surovikin is called Armageddon
Surovikin is an honored commander of the Russian Air Force. He is also known as ‘General Armageddon’ because of his brutal strategy of bombing Syrian cities. There has also been no response from Wagner on whether Surovikin was indeed associated with the organization. It is also unclear whether Wagner received any financial benefits from his VIP membership. Surovikin was known for his relationship with Wagner. But the documents are now also raising questions about Wagner’s closeness to other senior members of the Russian military. During Prigozhin’s short-lived rebellion, Wagner fighters captured the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don. During this he did not face any resistance even from the Russian army.
