The news agency claimed that the crew of the Belgorod nuclear submarine had also completed tests with a model of the torpedo. The Ministry of Defense has not yet commented on this report. Putin first announced about Poseidon in 2018. He had said that it is a new type of strategic nuclear weapon which will have its own source of nuclear energy.
Launch is done from nuclear submarine
There is little confirmed information publicly available about Poseidon. It is a cross between a torpedo and a drone that can be launched from a nuclear submarine. Russia’s Defense Ministry has released some videos of the 24-meter Poseidon, which NATO knows as Kanyon. The Poseidon will be installed on the K-329 Belgorod, a one-of-a-kind nuclear submarine built by the Sevmash shipyard.
