According to the report of Wall Street General, both Saudi Arabia and Iran have given permission to start flight services between each other. Apart from this, it has been agreed to start visits between the governments and private sector of both the countries. With this, a new era of relations has begun between the two enemy countries of the Gulf countries. Both the countries have agreed to open their embassies as well. Earlier in the year 2016, after the attack on the Saudi Embassy, the relationship between the two became tense.
CIA Chief William Burns suddenly arrived in Riyadh
Alarmed by the friendship between Saudi and Iran, CIA chief William Burns visited Riyadh last week and expressed his frustration to Saudi officials. The CIA chief told the Saudi prince that the US felt betrayed by Riyadh’s renewed ties with Tehran and Syria. That too when western countries have imposed various sanctions on Iran. It is being told that Saudi Arabia is in talks not only with Iran but also with Huthi rebels who have occupied a large part of Yemen and the Saudi army was fighting a war with them for many years.
Houthi rebels have several times targeted cities in Saudi Arabia, causing heavy casualties. Iran gives military and moral help to these Huthi rebels. Both sides have now agreed to extend the ceasefire till the end of 2023. America and Israel have opened a front against Iran. Israel is at great risk of Iranian missiles and drone attacks. Saudi Arabia and Iran have long been regional rivals but they are moving towards reconciliation after China’s mediation last month. The process of this reconciliation started last month.
Big diplomatic victory in the Gulf for China!
A preliminary reconciliation agreement between the two countries was reached in March under the mediation of China. The deal is believed to be a major diplomatic victory for China as the Gulf Arab countries watch the US gradually withdraw from the Middle East. Meanwhile, diplomats are trying to end the war in Yemen as well. Iran and Saudi Arabia are also involved in Yemen’s conflict. On Thursday morning, Saudi Arabia’s state TV channel Al-Ekhbariya showed Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and his Iranian counterpart, Hussein Amirbadolhian, shaking hands and sitting side by side. Iran’s state TV channel said the two ministers met to discuss the reopening of embassies.
