India has sent invitations to Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif and National Security Advisor (NSA) to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting in New Delhi in April. According to reports, Khwaja Asif has accepted the invitation of the Government of India. Since India is currently chairing the SCO, it is set to host a series of meetings.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization includes China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. India has also sent an invitation to Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for the SCO Foreign Ministers’ meeting to be held in May.
Earlier, India invited Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial as well as shared invitations for the SCO foreign ministers’ meeting. The Chief Justice, however, did not attend the meeting of the SCO Chief Justices and instead Justice Munib Akhtar recently attended the meeting through a video link. The SCO was founded in 2001 at a summit in Shanghai by the presidents of Russia, China, the Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
