SECL to supply 81 million tonnes of coal to power plants in 2023-24. Loktej Business News

New Delhi, 30 October (Hindustan Reporter). South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a unit of Coal India Limited (CIL), has so far supplied 81 million tonnes of coal to coal-based power plants in the current financial year 2023-24. In the same period of the last financial year, SECL had supplied about 85 million tonnes of coal.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Coal Ministry said that out of the total supply of 100 million tonnes (MT) by SECL so far, more than 80 per cent has gone to the power sector. This is a significant achievement keeping in mind the festive season when power demand is at its peak. The company has registered a growth of 17.65 percent during the current financial year.
According to the ministry, Gevra, Deepka and Kusmunda have made special contribution in the better performance this year among the big projects located in Korba district. Gevra, the country’s largest coal mine, has contributed 30.3 MT coal, while Deepka and Kusmunda have contributed 19.1 MT and 25.1 MT coal respectively. In this way, the share of all three projects in the total supply was more than 74 percent.
