Let us tell you that former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has suffered a second major setback within two days. Earlier on Tuesday, Imran Khan and former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi were sentenced to 10 years in jail each for violating confidentiality.

Collective fine of Rs 78.7 crore

According to media reports, a Pakistani court has sentenced Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 14 years in jail in the Toshakhana case. Not only this, the court has barred both of them from being reinstated to any public post for 10 years. The court has also imposed a collective fine of Rs 78.7 crore on them. If reports are to be believed, Bushra Bibi did not appear in court on Wednesday.

Know what is Toshakhana case

It is noteworthy that Toshakhana is a department under the Cabinet Division. This department is responsible for storing gifts given to rulers and government officials by heads of other governments and foreign dignitaries. If the ruler or government official wants to keep that gift privately, then he needs to pay an amount equal to the value of that gift. This will be decided through auction. Whatever amount is received in the auction is deposited in the national treasury.

Talking about Imran Khan, after becoming the Prime Minister of Pakistan in 2018, he received 58 gifts worth about Rs 14 crore during his official visits. Imran Khan was accused of buying those precious gifts from Toshakhana at a cheap price and selling them in the market at a higher price. An expensive watch was also included in this. According to the media reports, Imran Khan had bought expensive gifts worth about Rs 2.15 crore from Toshakhana. A profit of Rs 5.8 crore was earned by selling it in the market.
