of Akal Takht The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), representing the organizations after a meeting of various Sikh organizations on the call of Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh, announced that the lawyers of the committee would fight the cases of the arrested youths in the courts. Financial help will be given to the youth whose relatives have become lawyers. After this meeting of Sikh organizations at Akal Takht Sahib, Akal Takht Sahib’s Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh said that the character of Sikhs has been assassinated during the entire incident. The tone in which the question has come, it is necessary to answer in the same tone. SGPC president and lawyer Harjinder Singh Dhami said in a conversation with reporters after a meeting of Sikh organizations that lasted for about five hours, that the government has been given 24 hours to take a big decision if the arrested Sikh youths are not released. Is. Dhami told that if the government does not listen to him, then panchayats and meetings will be held all over Punjab to tell people about the atrocities on Sikhs.

Dhami while narrating the order of Giani Harpreet Singh said that SGPC will fight the legal battle of the arrested Sikhs who have been slapped with ‘Rasuka’, their issue will be taken up in the High Court. If someone has engaged his lawyer then he will be given financial assistance. For this the families have been asked to contact SGPC. Dhami said that Sikhs are being defamed by the national media as part of a conspiracy. It was also agreed in the meeting to take legal action against national channels. After the meeting of Sikh organizations at Akal Takht Sahib, the Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Harpreet Singh, in a message to the ‘Community’ said that the character of Sikhs has been assassinated during the entire incident. He said, today’s gathering declares from Akal Takht Sahib, we are standing with the Sikhs who are caught. We are with the arrested youths. We warn the government to release them in 24 hours. Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh said that the SGPC has been ordered to get the officers accountable in the court, who vandalized the vehicles of Sikhs. Apart from this, the black laws implemented on the Sikhs of Punjab should be repealed. Why black laws should be imposed only on minority group. Giani Harpreet Singh said that if a person like Bajeke used to put videos on ‘social media’ only for fame, then what is the danger to the country from him? In the meeting, a resolution was passed by voice vote against the imposition of Rasuka. The Jathedar said that the picketing in Harike was being ended, but lathicharge was done. ‘We should respond in the same manner as what happened to the Sikhs.’

The warning given for the release of innocent Sikhs from the Akal Takht regarding the state government’s action against ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief Amritpal Singh and his supporters, has come late as Punjab Police Chief Gaurav Yadav had already announced It has been reported that out of total 353 persons arrested under preventive incidents of law, 197 have been released. Clarifying the position of the Mann government, DGP Yadav also said that Chief Minister Mann has said that a positive approach should be adopted towards the arrested persons. As far as providing legal aid to the innocent is concerned, in this case the chief of Shiromani Akali Dal Badal S. Sukhbir Singh Badal has already announced.
Arrest of innocents cannot be justified in a democratic country, nor is it unfair to give them legal aid. The question then is, who will decide the innocent? Law or something else? There is rule of law in the country and issues will be resolved only by following the legal process. In the past, the atmosphere in Punjab had deteriorated only when the legal process itself was questioned. Today once again the finger is being raised on the legal process. This should be a matter of concern for Punjabis.

The state and central governments have to understand how sensitive the matter is when the majority Sikh community in the border state of Punjab itself starts pointing fingers at the legal process. Realizing the sensitivity of the matter, the state government should bring maximum transparency in the legal action, so that the seeds of discontent in the Sikh society do not flourish again.

During 1980-90, the seeds of discontent in the Sikh society had grown only when the state and central governments showed indifference towards sensitive matters, especially religious matters, and steps were taken only considering political gains and losses. As a result, the legal process was also disrupted. When the seeds of discontent flourished, Punjab became red with blood from farm-barn to house-courtyard. Learning from the past, we should not do any such thing which once again gives an opportunity to the seeds of discontent to flourish in Punjab and Punjab again starts burning in the fire of communalism.
All the concerned parties should keep one more thing in mind that the climate of Punjab is such and the soil is so fertile that whatever kind of seeds you sow, they will flourish. So, while sowing the seeds, do introspect, because how the Punjab of the future will be depends on our thinking and actions only.
