The Sensex based on 30 shares closed at 72,500.30 with a gain of 195.42 points or 0.27 percent. During trading, it reached a high of 72,730 points while it reached a low of 72,099.32 points. National Stock Exchange’s Nifty, based on fifty shares, also closed at 21,982.80 points with a gain of 31.65 points or 0.14 percent.

Among the Sensex companies, IndusInd Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, HCL Tech, Power Grid, Maruti, State Bank of India, Titan, Asian Paints, Nestle and UltraTech Cement were the major gainers. Reliance Industries shares strengthened by more than half a percent. The company’s shares have risen after the announcement of merger of Viacom18 media and entertainment assets with Star India. On the other hand, loss-making stocks include Hindustan Unilever, Bharti Airtel, Tata Motors, ITC, Tech Mahindra and Axis Bank.

In other markets of Asia, South Korea’s Kospi, Japan’s Nikkei and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng were in loss while China’s Shanghai Composite was in profit. Major markets in Europe were trading with losses in early trade. US markets were in slight loss on Wednesday.
