On the morning of January 18, local time, Chinese Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Tang Renjian met with US Agriculture Secretary J. Co-chaired the seventh meeting of the China-US Joint Committee on Agriculture with Vilsack. The meeting revived the China-US agricultural cooperation mechanism, and reiterated that the China-US Agricultural Joint Committee is an important channel for regular exchanges between the agricultural departments of the two countries. Tang Renjian said that on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States, the agriculture departments of the two countries implemented the San Francisco Consensus between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden and the joint committee meeting in Washington Started again, which was suspended for 9 years. This is a major milestone in the history of China-US agricultural relations. China is willing to work together with the US in a practical manner to take new steps to promote China-US agricultural cooperation and to stabilize food and agriculture development expectations.
Vilsack praised China’s achievements of stable grain growth for several consecutive years. He said that America attaches great importance to cooperation with China in various fields of agriculture. The United States is willing to work with China under the Joint Committee mechanism to take care of each other’s concerns, respond to each other’s activities, and create a good environment for the healthy development of US-China agricultural relations.
According to the agenda of the meeting, Thang Renjien chaired cooperation issues such as climate-smart agriculture, food security and non-governmental exchanges, while Vilsack chaired the issue of trade facilitation. Both sides reached consensus on the establishment of a Working Group on Food Security, Nutrition and Health under the Joint Committee Mechanism.
