In another blow to former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his party, Pakistan’s National Assembly passed a resolution demanding immediate action under the stringent Army Act against the political party and its leader involved in the May 9 violence. The resolution, tabled by Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, was passed by a majority in the lower house, tweeted the official handle of the National Assembly.
As per the resolution, the political party and its leaders crossed all limits and attacked military establishments on May 9, causing irreparable damage to the institutions of the state and the country. Therefore, without naming Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, the resolution demanded that action be taken against all such elements in accordance with the law and the Constitution. It added that there should be no delay in taking action against the guilty, even as party workers and leaders were distancing themselves from the May 9 violence.
The resolution also states that there has been no violation of human rights during the action taken against miscreants and criminals. The resolution noted that the military has the authority to act in response to attacks on military installations around the world, and that all individuals involved should be punished under the Pakistan Army Act 1952 for their actions.
