Was arrested in the year 2014
Supayya was detained in 2014 on charges of consuming drugs and failing to appear for investigation. Channel News Asia quoted a statement issued by the Singapore Prison Service as saying that Supayya was hanged at the Changi Prison complex on Wednesday morning. A Singapore court on Tuesday rejected Supayya’s plea to reconsider his case and stay the execution of the sentence till then, the channel reported.
British billionaire’s appeal in vain
In his 15-page order, Justice Chong had said that Supayya had failed to present a valid ground for the court to review his case. British billionaire Richard Branson and the Joint High Commissioner for Human Rights urged Singapore to reconsider its decision to execute Supayya and take the necessary steps to ensure her right to life is protected.
‘kill the innocent’
Branson claimed in a blog post that Supayya’s conviction did not meet the standards and that ‘Singapore is going to kill an innocent man’. However, Singapore’s Home Affairs Ministry objected to Branson’s comments on Tuesday, saying his comments on a Singaporean sentenced to death were an “insult” to the country’s judges and criminal justice system.
