Recently, good news has come from the Dalongtan Golden Monkey Field Research Base in Shennongjia National Park located in the northwestern Hubei province of China that since last month, 6 babies of Szechuan snub-nosed monkeys have been born in this base.
Huang Thienfang, in-charge of this base, while introducing said that the six golden monkey babies born are all healthy. The staff take special care of the mother monkeys and their babies and monitor them around the clock.
It is reported that the Szechuan snub-nosed monkey living in Shennongjia is an endangered and rare species of importance to China and the whole world, and is a national first-level protected wild animal in China. The Szechuan snub-nosed monkey is a subspecies of the golden monkey. The peak period for giving birth to children for these monkeys is from March to May every year. In recent years, the number of golden monkeys in Shennongjia has reached more than 1,470, an increase of more than 200 compared with 2005, while the number of ethnic groups of these golden monkeys has increased from 8 to 10 and their The area of inhabited areas has increased from 210 square kilometers to more than 350 square kilometers.
