Johannesburg: South African authorities have said the country’s disaster management teams are still searching for 10 people missing after heavy rains hit KwaZulu-Natal province. Six people have also died due to rain. Heavy rains on Sunday caused dams on the Belspruit River to burst, flooding the N11 road in Ladysmith Town in KwaZulu-Natal province, Xinhua news agency reported, citing a statement from the provincial department of Cooperative Administration and Traditional Affairs. A house located nearby was destroyed, while three family members were swept away.
According to the department, during the search and rescue operation, one member of the family was found dead, while the other two are still missing. Additionally, three vehicles traveling on the N11 road were also washed away. One of the vehicles carrying two people was swept away, with one person found dead in the car while the other is missing. Additionally, a double cab was carrying nine passengers, three of whom were found dead inside the vehicle, while the other six are missing. A light truck carrying two people was also washed away. According to the department, one was found dead in the car, while the other is missing.
