Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said that we will have to increase the rates of electricity according to the conditions of the IMF. We need to increase the revenue to match the expenditure. In Sri Lanka, people will now have to pay at least 30 Sri Lankan rupees per kilowatt. This is in line with the rate paid in India. Just 6 months back the Sri Lankan government had increased by 264.
While Sri Lanka is devastated, on the other hand, former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who is responsible for this devastation, has suddenly reached China. According to Sri Lankan media, Gotabaya Rajapaksa and his wife Ayoma have left for China this morning. He first went to Malaysia and is scheduled to visit China again from there. He left on a Malaysia Airlines plane. Gotabaya is the one who went into the lap of China and pushed the country into debt trap. There are allegations that China gave huge loans and took over the Hambantota port to appease the Rajapaksa family. This port has now become a major threat to India’s security. Recently, after the approval of Gotabaya, China’s spy ship had visited Hambantota port. This was strongly opposed by India.
