Chennai (Uttam Hindu News): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is on an eight-day visit to Spain to attract investment in the state.
The chief minister arrived in Madrid on Monday evening along with his wife Durgavati Stalin, state Industries Minister TRB Raja and a high-level official delegation.
The state government said in a statement that Chief Minister Stalin was met by Indian Ambassador to Spain Dinesh K. Patnaik and officials of the Indian Embassy there welcomed him.
The Chief Minister is scheduled to hold a conference of representatives of industry bodies, investors from leading companies and investment agencies, in which he will talk about the investor-friendly environment in his state.
The statement said that direct negotiations will be held with major companies such as Roca, Idibon, Acciona, GE Stamp and Invest Spain.
Previous visits by the Chief Minister to UAE, Singapore and Japan in 2021 had resulted in investments worth Rs 7,442 crore and employment to 17,000 people.
The statement also said that Japanese companies like Omran and Mitsubishi have already set up their factories in Tamil Nadu.
UAE-based Lulu Group has also set up supermarkets in Coimbatore, the statement said.
Meanwhile, the opposition AIADMK opposed Stalin’s visit to Spain, alleging that the visit was not to garner investment for the state but to “dispose of ill-gotten wealth”.
At an event in Tiruchi on Sunday, after the Chief Minister left for Madrid, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami alleged that Stalin was planning the visit to dispose of his and his family members’ “ill-gotten wealth”. We are doing this and the state will not benefit from it.
