New Delhi, 1 February (Hindustan Times). Budget day was not good for the domestic stock market. Despite a strong start to trading today, the stock market took a dive after the presentation of the budget. The stock market was already under pressure from weak global cues but the budget provisions further disappointed the corporate sector. After facing ups and downs throughout the day, Sensex closed with a weakness of 0.15 percent and Nifty 0.13 percent.

The PSU Bank index closed at a record high during today’s trading. Similarly, there was heavy buying in shares of banking, automobile and FMCG sectors. There was selling pressure in metal, capital goods and realty sector shares. On the sectoral front, automobile, bank, FMCG and power sectors closed with gains ranging from 0.30 percent to 0.80 percent. Realty, capital goods and metal indices recorded a decline of up to 1 percent. There was pressure in the broader market today, due to which the midcap index closed with a decline.

Today, due to the weakness of the market, the wealth of stock market investors decreased by about Rs 35 thousand crores. The market capitalization of BSE listed companies declined to Rs 379.43 lakh crore (provisional) after today’s trading. Their market capitalization on the last trading day i.e. Wednesday was Rs 379.78 lakh crore. In this way, investors suffered a loss of about Rs 35 thousand crore from today’s trading.

Today, there was active trading in 3,942 shares in BSE in the day’s trading. Of these, 1,813 shares closed with gains while 2,028 shares were in decline and 101 shares closed without any movement. In today’s trading, 461 shares managed to reach their highest level in the last one year, while 21 shares fell to their lowest level in the last one year due to selling pressure. Similarly, due to buying support, today 13 stocks hit upper circuit while 4 stocks faced lower circuit.

BSE Sensex opened today at 71,998.78 points with a gain of 246.67 points. The market remained bullish till the budget was presented. Due to continuous buying, this index jumped 398.91 points to reach 72,151.02 points by 11 am. After the presentation of the budget, all-round selling started in the market, due to which this index fell by more than 575 points from the upper level and fell to the level of 71,574.89 points with a weakness of 177.22 points. After buying and selling throughout the day, the Sensex closed at 71,645.30 points with a fall of 106.81 points.

Like the Sensex, NSE’s Nifty started trading today at 21,780.65 points with a gain of 54.95 points. After the market opened, buyers made buying efforts, due to which by 11 noon this index rose by 107.25 points to reach 21,832.95 points. Due to the sharp fall in the market after the presentation of the budget, this index dived into the red mark. Due to continuous selling, this index slipped more than 170 points from the upper level and reached 21,658.75 points with a weakness of 66.95 points. After the entire day’s trading, Nifty closed at 21,697.45 points with a fall of 28.25 points.
