Rupee up 6 paise in early trade

The rupee appreciated by 6 paise to 82.11 against the US dollar in early trade on Monday amid a rally in domestic equity markets and steady inflow of foreign funds. Forex traders said a rise in crude oil prices limited the rupee’s gains. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 82.14 against the dollar and then registered gains to reach 82.11. This is an increase of 6 paise over the previous closing level. The rupee had closed at 82.17 against the dollar on Friday. Meanwhile, the dollar index, showing the US dollar’s position against a basket of six major currencies, rose 0.05 per cent to 99.96. Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures were up 0.85 per cent at $79.19 per barrel.
