Five Chinese citizens were killed in an explosion by a suicide bomber when they attacked their convoy in northwest Pakistan. Reuters quoted regional police chief Mohammad Ali Gandapur as saying that the suicide bomber rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into a convoy of Chinese engineers traveling from Islamabad to their camp in Dasu in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Gandapur said five Chinese nationals and their Pakistani driver were killed in the attack.
Dasu, home to an important dam project, has been the target of previous attacks. In 2021, nine Chinese nationals, including two Pakistani children, were killed in an attack in Dasu. The incident occurred when a bus carrying Chinese engineers and workers to the Dasu hydropower project site was targeted. There was initially confusion over the nature of the attack, with some reports suggesting that it was a bus accident. However, subsequent investigation revealed that it was actually a terrorist attack. There was a huge explosion in the bus, due to which it fell into a ravine.
