ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), a joint venture between the world’s two leading steel producers, ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the implementation of the Gujarat Government’s “Van Pahari” project. This project is an initiative launched by Mukeshbhai Patel, Minister of State for Forest and Environment, Climate Change, Water Resources and Water Supply, Government of Gujarat to protect forest resources.
An MoU was signed with leading IT solutions provider SM Techno Consultants Pvt Ltd on Wednesday, marking an important step towards modernizing forest conservation efforts in Gujarat.
Van Prahari is a visionary initiative, which has been recognized as a project of national importance. This shows the commitment and proactive approach of the State Government towards the protection of forest resources. It is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India vision and provides quick access to important information for forest conservation.
Leveraging technology, the “Van Prahari” project enhances forest protection measures and facilitates real time monitoring and management. At the heart of the project is the Garuda module which is a very important technology with features like vehicle entry monitoring, scanning and instant alert sharing. This innovative system provides modern check posts, quick tracking of suspicious vehicles and helps in detection and investigation of forest related crimes. This first uses Artificial Intelligence for efficient forest patrolling and recording wildlife sightings to ensure a more effective approach to conservation.
The initial phase of the Van Prahari project involves modernization of forest check posts at eight locations in six districts of South Gujarat. It also includes development of field-level management information systems for effective decision making and use at the level of range forest officers to strengthen forest conservation measures.
The project has successfully addressed challenges such as wood theft during its pilot phase in Tapi district. The initiative aims to not only tackle forest crimes but also build a collaborative and technologically advanced approach to conserve forest resources and pave the way for a greener and more sustainable future for future generations.
