According to the data, domestic air traffic increased by 4.8 percent year-on-year to 126.48 lakh passengers in February. More than 1.55 lakh passengers had to face problems due to flight delays in the month of February. The latest figures in this regard have been released by DGCA on Friday. According to DGCA, Air India’s market share increased from 12.2 percent to 12.8 percent in February, while IndiGo’s market share declined marginally to 60.1 percent from 60.2 percent in January.

In this regard, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said that domestic air traffic increased to 126.48 lakh passengers in February, compared to 120.69 lakh passengers in the year-ago period. However, in January the traffic was recorded at less than 1.31 crore. The number of passengers traveling by domestic airlines during January-February, 2024 was 257.78 lakh, compared to 246.11 lakh during the same period last year, registering an annual growth of 4.74 per cent and monthly growth of 4.80 per cent, DGCA said. Flight delays in February affected 1,55,387 passengers and scheduled carriers spent Rs 222.11 lakh for the facility. The DGCA said 29,143 passengers were affected by the cancellations and the airlines spent Rs 99.96 lakh on compensation and facilities. Last month, a total of 917 passengers were affected due to cancellations and the amount spent by the airlines for compensation and facilities in this regard was Rs 78.19 lakh. A total of 791 passenger-related complaints were received by scheduled domestic airlines in February and the number of complaints per 10,000 passengers was about 0.63. The data showed that 37.8 per cent of passengers’ complaints were about flight-related problems, followed by baggage (19 per cent), refunds (16.3 per cent) and customer service (11.1 per cent).
