Former Gujarat Pradesh Congress President and Gujarat Assembly Congress Party leader Amitbhai Chavda talked to the diamond workers (gemstone artists) of Surat at Shramjeevi Sevalay on their issues. Members of Diamond Workers Union Gujarat presented their petitions. Told the media that the diamond industry, especially the gem artists, is facing recession. Therefore, the government should announce an economic package for gem artists. At present, suicide by diamond workers is increasing. We will convey to the government the demand of Ratnakalakar Sangh to form “Ratnakarta Welfare Board”.

Congress leader Amit Chavda said that Surat’s diamond industry has got major recognition in the world. This industry provides employment to lakhs of people and gives huge exchange rate to the central and state government. Surat’s diamond industry has suffered economic losses due to the war between Russia and Ukraine. Along with traders, gem artists are facing financial problems. Fed up with the situation, 30 people have committed suicide. More than two million gem artists are associated with the diamond industry. Due to the recession situation, working hours have been reduced and holidays have been announced from now on. There is no specific time as to when the unit will start.

Leaders of Ratna artists met Muz today and gave a presentation. More than 30 Ratna artists have committed suicide in Surat. Then the government should express concern and announce an economic package. Our demand is that the government should announce an economic package for Ratna artists. Ratna Deep Yojana was launched during the global recession, there are demands to revive the scheme and announce an economic package. The Central and State Governments should announce a financial package for the families of gem artists who commit suicide due to financial constraints.

The professional tax imposed on gem artists is illegal. We demand from the government that the business tax imposed on gem artists should be cancelled. Otherwise Congress will fight this battle in the coming days. Gem artists should get benefits as per law. Laws are being violated by some companies, action is being demanded against violation of laws under the Factory Act. The union’s demand for creation of Ratna Artists Welfare Board is a demand which we will convey to the government.

In the current situation, Ratna artists are facing financial crisis and are committing suicide. Announce an economic relief package for jewelers who have become unemployed. In the coming days, we will put these questions before the Assembly and the government. If necessary, a mass movement will be carried out on the streets on this issue.
