South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry organized an interactive meeting on ‘Global Gold Value Chain’ on Saturday, 16th December 2023 at 3:00 pm at Samhati Building, Sarsana, Surat. In which Rajesh Mehta, Executive Chairman of Rajesh Exports, gave detailed information about the global gold value chain to the jewelers of Surat.
In the interactive meeting, Chamber President Ramesh Vaghasia said, “India ranks second in the world in consumption of gold jewellery. At present, India exports 90 percent of the world’s gold jewelery to only five countries. India is one of the world’s largest exporters of gold jewellery. Recently the US has overtaken the UAE as the largest export destination for Indian jewellery. The following two things reflect the development of India. First, the imposition of additional tariffs on Chinese jewelery exports to the US, which has made Indian exporters more competitive, and second, the implementation of 5 per cent import duty and 5 per cent value added tax (VAT) in the UAE in January 2017. ,
Rajesh Mehta, Executive Chairman, Rajesh Exports was very impressed with the Chamber’s Mission 84 project and assured full support to the Chamber President. He said that projects like Mission 84 should be adopted by all chambers of commerce across India so that we can aim higher and project India as an economic powerhouse in the world, our goals should always be high.
He called upon jewelers and entrepreneurs to become industrial soldiers of the country. At present India’s share in exports is 2.9 percent. Since India’s population in the world accounts for 22 percent, all Indians were asked to increase exports. While discussing the global gold value chain to the jewelers present, he said that success can be achieved only through hard work, goals and honesty. Like China and Japan, India should also progress in every field and what can we do in every field? This should be considered.
The meeting was moderated by Paresh Bhatt, CEO of the Chamber’s SGCCI Global Connect Mission-84. The outline of the meeting was laid out by Kamlesh Gajera, Group Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce. Chamber’s group chairman Deepak Sethwala, Anil Saraogi and bullion committee chairman Nainesh Pachigar and entrepreneurs working in the jewelers sector were present in this interactive meeting. In the end, Chamber Treasurer Kiran Thummar gave the vote of thanks.
