tel aviv (Uttam Hindu News): Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Friday that talks are going on between Hamas and the Israelis to bring back the Israeli hostages.
“Prime Minister Netanyahu has told the family members of the hostages that the government is in talks to bring back the hostages from Gaza,” sources told IANS.
Netanyahu said that Qatar and Egypt are playing the role of mediator in this conversation with Hamas.
Israeli government sources told IANS that the Israeli government has discussed two proposals on mediation to bring back the hostages – one with the Qataris and the other with the Egyptians.
According to the proposal put forward by Qatar, female hostages would be the first to be released by Hamas in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.
Sources told IANS that Egypt has put forward a proposal for a permanent ceasefire and post-war Gaza administration.
“However, Israel is not keen on a permanent ceasefire,” the sources said.
The Israeli Prime Minister had informed the War Cabinet that Mossad chief David Burnia would be discussing with Egyptian and Qatari officials regarding a possible hostage deal.
