The Arab world can understand that Ukraine will not kneel before a foreign ruler: Zelensky

Addressing the conference, Zelensky referred to the Arab world’s history of invasions and occupations, saying, “These nations can understand that Ukraine will not kneel before a foreign ruler, that’s why we are fighting.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky began a trip to Saudi Arabia on Friday, where he attended an Arab summit. Syrian President Bashar Assad also attended the conference being hosted by Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia’s Wali Ahad Mohammed bin Salman welcomed both Assad and Zelensky in the Red Sea city of Jeddah. Addressing the conference, Zelensky referred to the Arab world’s history of invasions and occupations, saying, “These nations can understand that Ukraine will not kneel before a foreign ruler, that’s why we are fighting.”
Zelensky also hit out at Russia for supplying attack drones and talked about the problems faced by Muslims living in Russian-controlled Crimea. The Ukrainian president said without naming anyone that some in the audience had “turned a blind eye” to the Russian attack. During the conference, such leaders of the Arab world were also present, who have adopted a neutral position after the Russian attack on Ukraine. Along with this, leaders of many other countries are also present, who have good relations with Russia.
Significantly, Assad has once again been welcomed in the Arab world, almost 12 years after Syria was isolated at the start of the civil war. This whole exercise is being linked to the recent strategy of Mohammed bin Salman, under which emphasis is being laid on regional unity. Recently, Saudi Arabia has restored diplomatic relations with its arch-rival Iran. After playing a role in a prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine last year, Saudi Arabia has also offered to mediate in a bid to end the war between the two countries.
