Every year 20 March is the International Day of Happiness. It was determined in the 66th United Nations General Assembly held in the year 2012. The resolution of the UN General Assembly states that happiness and well-being are the common goal and expectation of all people around the world. The then United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said on the first International Day of Happiness that the pursuit of happiness is the root of effort. The international community should engage in sustainable development and build a happy future together.

The 2022 World Happiness Report states that Finland is the happiest country in the world, ranking first in the world for five years in a row. Denmark and Iceland ranked second and third respectively. Meanwhile, China moved up 12 places to rank 72nd, which is in the middle of the table.
