Kathmandu: A section of the Jaynagar-Bijalpura-Bardibas rail line connecting India and Nepal became operational on Sunday. Here the officials gave this information. Nepal’s Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Prakash Jwala inaugurated the Kurtha-Bijalpura section of the cross-border rail line in Bijalpura, the Indian Embassy said in a press release. Prasanna Srivastava, Deputy Chief of the Embassy of India, local leaders and government officials from Madhesh Pradesh were also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Jwala said, “This rail connectivity will give a tremendous boost to the people-to-people ties between the two countries and promote business in Nepal. and increase tourism. The total length of the Kurtha-Bijalpura line is 17.3 km and the five stations on this section are Kurtha, Pipradi, Loharpatti, Singyahi and Bijalpura. It is being built under India’s grant assistance of Rs 783.83 crore, the release said. The Jaynagar-Bijalpura-Bardibas cross border rail line is the second phase of the project.

The first phase from Jaynagar to Kurtha was inaugurated in April last year and has been operational since then. Land acquisition is being done for the third phase connecting Bijalpura to Bardibas. The Kurtha-Bijalpura rail section was handed over to the Government of Nepal during the visit of Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ to India last month.
