The Avankh caste is one of the minority castes in China. The meaning of Avankh is “the people who live in the mountains and forests”. Many Avankh people live in the Tashing Anling mountain range in northern China. They lived a nomadic life of reindeer herding and hunting for generations. After the founding of New China (October 1949), the Avankh people gradually began to settle down with the help of the government. In present-day Kan-ha city of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, some Avankh people still maintain the habit of living under the mountain and herding deer on the mountain. Among them is the young Ywi Quo.

Ywi Quo is 29 this year. In primary school, he went out of the way to study in South China. Later worked in many big cities. In 2018, Yi Kwo Kan-ha returned to the city to help his mother with reindeer herding. In winter, Tashing Anling Mountain is covered with snow and the temperature drops below minus 40 degree Celsius. The Yi Quo family herds deer in the forests. Due to which Ywi Quo often had to stay in the mountains to take care of them. The forest is his home.

In the summer of 2022, Ywi Quo began sharing his daily life on the short video platform. He hopes to show everyone the real life conditions of the Avankh people. Leisurely roaming deer, snow, and birds in search of food. These natural scenes in Ywi Quo’s video show quickly attracted more people’s attention. Currently the local government of Kan-ha city has built permanent housing for the Avankh people, where central heating, water supply and internet is available. Also, it is very convenient to go to school and get medical treatment. Avnakh youth Yvi Quo said that both the city and the forest exist, modern civilization and ancient tradition exist together. He is living the life of his choice from his heart.
