Lahore. Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan has been provided with several new facilities in the Attock District Jail and he expressed satisfaction over these facilities before a top police official who visited the jail in Punjab province. Punjab Inspector General (IG) Prisons Mian Farooq Nazir visited the 70-year-old Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party chairman Khan at the jail on Sunday and reviewed the facilities provided to him. Khan was earlier this month sentenced to three years imprisonment in the Toshakhana corruption case.

According to jail officials, the officer reviewed where cameras were installed in his barrack to ensure Khan’s privacy. According to ‘The Express Tribune’ newspaper, jail officials said that Khan has been given a bed, pillow, mattress, chair and air cooler as per the prison rules. They have also been provided with a fan, a room for prayers, a copy of the Quran translated into English, books, a newspaper, thermos, dates, honey, tissue paper and perfume. According to reports, Khan during his meeting with Nazir expressed satisfaction over the facilities provided to him at the Attock District Jail.

Khan’s new toilet has been provided with a western-style ‘toilet seat’, a wash basin, soap, air freshener, towels and tissue paper, officials said. It has been reported in the report that five doctors have been appointed to provide medical facilities to the former prime minister, each of whom works for eight hours. Accordingly, special food is also being arranged for Khan with the permission of IG Prisons and a special team provides food to him after he is examined by a doctor. Khan’s wife and party expressed concern about his safety and health, after which he was provided these additional services. The PTI core committee had claimed that Khan was being denied the right to get food and water from home and feared that he would be poisoned in jail.

Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi had urged the Supreme Court on Friday to take serious note of her husband’s deteriorating health. Bushra moved the apex court after meeting Imran in jail on Tuesday. Bushra, through her lawyer Rifaqat Hussain Shah, submitted an affidavit to the Supreme Court, requesting it to intervene for the sake of Imran Khan’s health. Earlier, Bushra had written in a letter to the Punjab Home Secretary that the court had directed the authorities concerned to shift her husband from Attock Jail in Punjab to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.

She had said, “My husband was put in Attock jail without any justification. As per the law, my husband should be shifted to Adiala Jail.” Bushra had demanded that Khan be given ‘B’ category facilities in view of his social and political status. Bushra had said that Khan could be poisoned in Attock jail. Khan was arrested from his home in Lahore. Prior to that, an Islamabad court had convicted him in the Toshakhana corruption case. He has been in jail since August 5.
