The United States said on Tuesday there was no specific information about Iran’s role in Hamas’s recent terrorist attack on Israel but that it was “broadly” complicit in funding the terrorist group’s military wing.
US National Security Advisor (NSA) Jack Sullivan told reporters on Tuesday, “We have said from the beginning that Iran was broadly complicit in this attack because they have provided huge funding to the military wing of Hamas. They provided training. They (Iran) provided them with the capabilities to attack. “He cooperated and has been in contact with Hamas for years.”
“All of these things have played a role in the events that we have seen,” he said. Right now on the question whether Iran knew about this attack in advance or helped in planning or directed this attack, we do not have any such information right now. “We are talking to our Israeli counterparts about this question on a regular basis.”
Sullivan said that America is trying to gather information from its intelligence agencies whether they have any information in this regard. “We are trying to gather more intelligence,” he said. If I get any information, I will share it with you.
The Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas started attacks on Israel on Saturday, in which more than 1,000 people have been killed. Israel also retaliated by carrying out airstrikes in Gaza in which more than 800 people have died.
The US has launched a major global diplomatic campaign to garner support for Israel and take necessary action against Hamas. He said the US is not surprised by China’s response to the Hamas attack given its history of statements on such issues.
The NSA said, “We believe the United States is ready to support Ukraine in Europe, support our allies in the Indo-Pacific, and support our close ally Israel during this difficult time.” We believe we have all the resources, tools and capabilities to do this effectively.
