This cannot be tolerated in a civilized society: High Court

The High Court has taken cognizance of the case of a woman being paraded naked in Valtoha village in Tarn Taran and has sought a reply from the Punjab Government. The High Court has said that this is a very disgusting incident. Strict action should be taken on this. However, the Punjab government told the High Court that an FIR has been registered in this case and till now all five accused have been arrested. The mobile from which the video of this entire incident was made has also been confiscated and further action is being taken. Despite this, the High Court has ordered the status report of the action taken so far to be presented in the next hearing of the case on April 30. The High Court said that this is a very disgusting act, such incidents need to be curbed and strict action should be taken against people with such mentality. Angered by her daughter’s love marriage in Tarn Taran, her family reached her in-laws’ house and beat up her mother-in-law. The accused held the mother-in-law by her hair and paraded her semi-nude in the street and made a video of it and made it viral. Police had registered a case against 5 people including the girl’s mother and 2 brothers in this matter.

Let us tell you that a 19-year-old young man and a girl living in the same locality in village Valtoha of Khemkaran had a love marriage. Angered by this, the girl’s mother, two brothers and two unknown people forcibly entered the young man’s house. During this time only his daughter and her mother-in-law were present in the house. As soon as the accused entered the house, they started fighting with both of them. When the mother-in-law tried to save her daughter-in-law, the accused tore her clothes, grabbed her by her hair and brought her to the street in a semi-nude condition. Made a video of him in the street and made it viral on the internet media. The victim woman was admitted to a private hospital in Amritsar.

It is noteworthy that Sanjay Vashishtha, Administrative Judge of Tarn Taran Division in the High Court, had written a letter to the Acting Chief Justice of the High Court Gurmeet Singh Sanghawalia and Judge Lupita Banerjee regarding the above matter. It was written in it that ‘The incident that happened in Tarn Taran has reminded us of Draupadi Chirharan during the Mahabharata. Pandavas and Bhishma Pitamah maintained silence on the disrobing of Draupadi, the result of which was the war of Mahabharata. Today, after centuries, the common man does not expect the justice system to remain silent on such incidents happening right under the nose of the administration. It is on the basis of the initiative taken by Judge Vashishtha that the High Court has issued a notice to the Punjab Government.

Judge Vashishtha has mentioned the silence of Bhishmapitamah and Pandavas during the Mahabharata. Pitamah’s silence at the time of Draupadi’s disrobing was a major reason for Pitamah breathing his last on arrows. The heinous act committed by the Kauravas led to their destruction. In the war of Mahabharata, countless people including great charioteers were killed on both sides, Pandavas and Kauravas. In a way, a prosperous society and many countries were ruined due to war.

There is a need to understand the above truth even today. When society and administration become silent spectators to such heinous acts and do not perform their duties, then ultimately that society collapses. The law will definitely take its course but Judge Sanjay Vashishtha deserves special congratulations for understanding the situation and taking timely action.
