For the first time, Dr. Saveera Prakash, a member of the Hindu community in Buner district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan, has filed her nomination papers for a general seat in the upcoming general elections in the country. Prakash is expected to contest the elections on Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) ticket. His father Om Prakash is a retired doctor and has been an active member of the party for the last 35 years. Salim Khan, a local politician associated with the Qaumi Watan Party, said that Prakash was the first woman to file nomination papers for the upcoming general seat election from Buner. Prakash, a 2022 graduate from Abbottabad International Medical College, holds the post of general secretary in PPP women’s wing in Buner.

Prakash told Don that she wanted to follow her father’s footsteps in working for the poor of the area. He said he had submitted his nomination papers on December 23. She stressed her commitment to work for the betterment of women in the region, ensuring a safe environment and advocating for their rights. According to her, women have been continuously oppressed and ignored in the field of development. Regarding his party’s support for the candidacy he expressed optimism about achieving it.

Citing his medical background, he asserted that his instinct to serve humanity was inherent, formed by first-hand experiences of mismanagement and helplessness in government hospitals during his tenure as a doctor. Imran Noshad Khan, a social media influencer from Buner, expressed his full support for the candidate, regardless of his political affiliation.
