San Francisco (Uttam Hindu News): Chinese short-video making app TikTok has also joined the big companies making layoffs. A certain number of employees have been asked to leave to reduce costs. According to a company spokesperson, the job cuts were mostly in the sales and advertising divisions.
As NPR reports, the affected employees worked in Los Angeles, New York, Austin, and some global locations. The report says 60 employees have been asked to leave. However, other reports mention that “at least” 100 employees have been laid off at TikTok. The report mentions that TikTok is going to hold a general meeting in the wake of the layoff announcement.
TikTok has about seven thousand employees in America and it has more than 15 crore active users in the country. This year, other tech companies including Google, Amazon, Unity and Discord have also announced job cuts. Google CEO Sundar Pichai has reportedly warned employees to prepare for more job cuts this year.
YouTube is reportedly laying off at least 100 employees from its creator management and operations teams. This year, about 62 tech companies have fired more than 10 thousand employees. Tech companies, including startups, across the world laid off more than 4,25,000 employees in 2022 and 2023, while more than 36,000 employees were dismissed in India in the same time frame.
