Why did RBI decide to demonetize the note?
The Rs 2000 denomination notes were introduced in November 2016 by the RBI under Section 24 (1) of the Act, 1934. This was done to rapidly meet the currency requirement of the economy after withdrawal of legal tender status of all Rs 500 and Rs 1000 banknotes then in circulation.
